We will cover the following : \n\nBlood Smear Preparation\nStaining Methods\nSystematic Blood Smear Evaluation\nRed Blood Cell Morphology\nRegenerative Anaemia Interpretation\nWhite Blood Cell Morphology and Differential Counts\nPlatelet Assessment\nTroubleshooting Common Errors\nSummary and Case Review\n\nPresenters: Dr Anthony Zambelli\nVeterinarian – Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialist \nAnthony trained as a vet at the University of Pretoria\, South Africa whilst also studying for a degree in Zoology at the University of Witwatersrand. After qualifying he moved to the UK to practice around London where he also worked as a Veterinary Business Advisor for Hill’s Pet Nutrition and completed a Diploma in Senior Management at the Open University. He returned to South Africa in 2003 for three years was a resident and lecturer at the University of Pretoria where he qualified as a specialist physician. While at the university he developed his interest in oncology and ran the Oncology Service\, before moving into private practice. For 17 years he ran a referral service for the province\, while also undertaking referral work in Zambia and Mauritius\, and lecturing and training vets around SA and internationally. Anthony grew his practice from three to 50 staff over three branches\, while at the same time consulting for Royal Canin during the melamine crisis of 2006-2007 and pioneering the use of PDT for skin cancer. Pursuing his love of studying\, Anthony will complete a BSc in Archaeology and Anthropology through the University of South Africa in 2024.At the start of 2024 he also moved back to the UK to join Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists as the Clinical Oncologist. His particular interests lie in interventional procedures\, the management of skin cancers\, sarcomas and mast cell tumours\, as well as managing senior oncology patients with comorbidities

In this talk we will cover the basics of cancer biology\, distinguishing between benign and malignant growths. Common skin masses such as melanomas\, lipomas\, mast cell tumours\, histiocytomas\, and squamous cell carcinomas are discussed\, including their clinical features and breed predilections. Diagnostic approaches like fine needle aspiration\, digital cytology and biopsies are outlined\, along with staging techniques such as imaging and lymph node mapping. Treatment strategies range from surgical excision to local and systemic therapies. The presentation emphasizes the importance of identifying non-neoplastic lesions and using a methodical diagnostic and therapeutic approach. \nDr Peter Guy BSc\, BVSc\, MMedVet (Surg)\nSpecialist Surgeon @ Panorama Veterinary Clinic & Specialist Centre\nDr Peter Guy is a South African veterinarian who specialises in small animal surgery. He qualified as a veterinarian in 2013 from Onderstepoort and completed his specialist training in 2023. He is part of the team at Panorama Veterinary Clinic and Specialist Centre\, where he has a strong interest in all aspects of surgery. Dr Guy is also involved in specialist training and currently mentors two new residents at the practice.
