SUMMARY:IDEXX | Big Questions about Small Things: Everything Vets Want to Know about Clinical Microbiology [WATCH RECORDING]
DESCRIPTION:Subject: Big Questions about Small Things: Everything Vets Want to Know about Clinical Microbiology\nSpeakers: Dr Stephen Cole\nOrganizer: Idexx\nLINK: WATCH RECORDING \nThe microbiology lab can be a bit of an enigma – you send in a swab and get back a report. In this session\, we will cover what actually happens to that swab\, how you can improve your sample collection and submission\, and help to figure out why some frustrating results from the lab can happen. We will also cover antimicrobial susceptibility testing and when it can help (and when it doesn’t!). \nDr. Stephen Cole\, MS\, VMD\, is an Assistant Professor of Microbiology and Director of the Clinical Infectious Disease Laboratory at PennVet. He obtained his MS in microbiology from the College of William and Mary in 2011 and his VMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. He became boarded in bacteriology and immunology in 2018 and virology in 2020 by the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists. He is the recipient of the ASM Peggy Cotter Early Career Award\, numerous teaching awards and was named a One Health Scholar by the AAVMC. Dr. Cole’s research focuses on how to understand and mitigate the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria between companion animals and people.

SUMMARY:HILL'S | Vet Webinar #4: Tooth Resorption [WATCH RECORDING]
DESCRIPTION:Subject: Hill’s Vet Webinar #4: Tooth Resorption\nSpeakers: Dr Roxanne Emslie\nOrganizer: Hill’s Pet Nutrition\nLINK: WATCH RECORDING \nTooth resorption is the great imitator of dental conditions. It can masquerade as periodontal disease\, gingivitis and even gingival enlargements or oral masses. Even though it often tries to hide away\, it causes severe pain and can be debilitating for our beloved pets. In this webinar\, we will reveal a few tell-tale signs of tooth resorption and how to decide the best course of action for each tooth\, and even each root\, as an individual. \nDr Roxanne Emslie BSc\, BVSc\, MSc\, Dipl.EVDC\nCape Animal Dentistry Service\nAfter qualifying from Onderstepoort\, Roxanne joined a predominantly equine referral practice. Here she gained some exposure to equine and small animal dentistry and realised this was a frequently overlooked aspect of veterinary science that can greatly impact an animal’s quality of life. She went back to Onderstepoort to complete an internship in small animal medicine and surgery\, after which she moved to Cape Town to complete her residency with the European Veterinary Dental College\, as well as her MSc in serval oral and dental pathology. Roxanne is a European recognised specialist in dentistry and oral surgery. When not talking teeth\, Roxanne enjoys all the outdoor adventures that Cape Town has to offer together with her husband\, Kevin\, as well as her horse\, two dogs and two cats.

This webinar will demystify how these histograms are generated by automated analyzers\, what the shapes and patterns mean\, and how to interpret them in the context of real-world clinical cases. Whether you’re reviewing a CBC or troubleshooting unexpected results\, this session will help you read between the lines for better patient care. \nEric Morissette \nDVM\, DACVP\nDr. Morissette began his academic career at the University of Montreal\, where he earned a Bachelor of Biology in 1994. After finishing this program\, he continued at the University of Montreal and earned a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1998. \nIn 2006\, with his veterinary practice career in full swing\, Dr. Morissette decided to further his education and training. He followed his passion and entered the Veterinary Clinical Pathology Program at the University of Florida\, where he completed his residency and passed boards in 2009\, granting him the title of Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologist (ACVP).
