SUMMARY:SAVA | JHB Branch Online Event: Fundamental Differences in the Management of Orthopaedic Disease in the Feline Patient
DESCRIPTION:Subject: Fundamental Differences in the Management of Orthopaedic Disease in the Feline Patient\nSpeaker: Dr. Ross Elliott\nSponsor: SAVA JHB Branch\nLINK: REGISTER HERE \nCats have been long considered small dogs and most of our veterinary knowledge in terms of treating feline patients comes from work done in dogs. This is far from the truth unfortunately\, cats have fundamental anatomical\, physiological and lifestyles compared to dogs. In the last 10 years there has been a surge in the number of feline specific papers looking at the best course of treatment in the feline patient. In this Webinar we will look at the intrinsic differences in the feline anatomy\, physiology and environmental demands placed on the feline patient in terms of the musculoskeletal system and how we can use the recent literature to provide the best course of treatment for our feline patients in terms of orthopaedic disease. \nDr. Ross Elliott\nBVSc\, MMedVet (Surg)\, Diplomat ECVS\nDr Ross Elliott qualified from Onderstepoort in as a veterinarian 2005. He continued to work as a senior specialist in private practice until 2020\, when he returned to Onderstepoort to take up the position of senior lecturer of small animal surgery in the companion animal clinical studies department and start a residency for the European college of veterinary surgeons. He has completed the residency in 2023 and was deemed board ready to sit the exam. In 2025 Ross passed the exam and is a registered small animal surgical specialist in Europe\, the UK and Hong Kong.
