SUMMARY:HILL'S | Webinar #3: What Progesterone Can\, and Can't\, Tell You
DESCRIPTION:Subject: What Progesterone Can\, and Can’t\, Tell You – A practical guide to interpreting progesterone results in small animal practice.\nSpeaker: Dr Geoff Brown\nOrganizer: Hill’s Pet Nutrition\nLINK:  REGISTER HERE \nTo register for this webinar\, you will now need to log in to the Hill’s Veterinary Academy (HVA) Platform.\nTo register\, users will need to sign into HVA and navigate to the “Register for Live Events” tab.\n \nSerum progesterone measurement has become an accessible and widely used tool in small animal practice. It can assist the general practitioner in identifying conditions such as ovarian remnants\, pyometra and stump pyometra\, as well as guiding breeding management and the timing of elective Caesarean section. \nHowever\, like all laboratory diagnostics\, progesterone results must be interpreted in the context of the patient’s history and clinical findings. A single number on a laboratory report can easily create client pressure\, diagnostic uncertainty\, and occasionally clinical confusion. \nIn this practical webinar\, specialist veterinarian Dr Geoff Brown explores how progesterone testing can be used effectively in everyday practice. Using real clinical scenarios\, he discusses what progesterone results actually tell us\, what they don’t\, and how they should be interpreted alongside the clinical picture. \nAlong the way\, the discussion briefly touches on the broader principles underlying diagnostic testing\, using progesterone as an example of how laboratory results should be integrated with clinical reasoning. \nThis session is designed for the conscientious general practitioner who wants a clear and practical framework for interpreting progesterone results in everyday practice. \nDr Geoff Brown\nBVSC\, MMedVet(Gyn)\, PhD\, MRCVS\nGeoff is a specialist veterinarian in animal reproduction and runs Bestbred Veterinary Reproduction Services in Gauteng. He completed his residency in theriogenology at the University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Veterinary Science\, where he later worked as a clinician in the Section of Reproduction. \nAlthough he now works primarily in private practice\, Dr Brown remains actively involved in research and teaching\, and enjoys helping veterinarians translate reproductive physiology into practical clinical decision-making. \nDisclaimer: This information is exclusively intended for registered veterinary and para-veterinary professionals.
