SUMMARY:WILDLIFE PHARMACEUTICALS | Tusk Problems in Elephants: Challenges and Treatments [WATCH RECORDING]
DESCRIPTION:Subject: Tusk Problems in Elephants: Challenges and Treatments\nSpeakers: Dr Yves Debosschere\nOrganizer: Wildlife Pharmaceuticals\nLINK: WATCH RECORDING \nDental issues in general – and tusk problems in particular – are frequently encountered in elephants\, both in zoological settings and in the wild. In some cases\, these conditions can even lead to fatal outcomes. This webinar will highlight the different types of tusk pathology in elephants and present the most appropriate treatment options\, based on the latest guidelines and clinical experience. \nWildlife Pharmaceuticals is a proudly South African pharmaceutical company\, with over 20 years’ experience in the veterinary field. We specialize in the manufacturing and distribution of small batch\, scheduled medicines intended for niche markets across the globe. \nWildlife Pharmaceuticals was founded in 1997 as a distributor of wildlife immobilisation medicines. At the time\, there was a growing global demand for wildlife specific veterinary medicines due to the increasing need for conservation-based wildlife management. This spurred on the decision to build a small-scale API and small batch sterile filling facility. \nAbout the Speaker: \nDr. Yves Debosschere graduated from Ghent University in 1992 and worked for ten years in mixed practice before starting his first formal training in veterinary dentistry in 2001. He later pursued advanced education in dentistry and oral surgery\, and since 2018 he has run his own consulting practice focusing on companion animals\, wildlife\, and zoo dentistry. Since 2024\, he has also served as a wildlife dentistry consultant for Tsavran Consultancies. He has been a board member of EVDS/EVDF since 2015 and will assume the presidency of the European Veterinary Dental Foundation in 2025. \n

SUMMARY:ENTERPRISES UP | The Multidisciplinary Approach to the Cardiopulmonary Compromised Patient (22-24 October)
DESCRIPTION:Subject: The Multidisciplinary Approach to the Cardiopulmonary Compromised Patient\nSpeakers: Multiple\nOrganizer: Enterprises University of Pretoria\nLINK: REGISTER HERE \nAre you fully equipped to manage your next high-risk cardiopulmonary case? For many veterinarians\, these patients remain some of the most daunting… the dog with severe mitral valve disease needing surgery\, the cat with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy requiring anesthesia for diagnostics\, or the respiratory compromised patient that doesn’t respond as expected to treatment. Too often\, practitioners feel isolated in these moments\, without access to the multidisciplinary support that specialists take for granted. \nThis 2.5-day CPD course is designed to close that gap. Delivered by a team of specialists in small animal internal medicine\, anesthesiology\, surgery\, diagnostic imaging\, and clinical pathology\, the course offers practical\, evidence-based strategies that you can take straight back into your practice. \nThrough interactive lectures\, real case discussions\, and collaborative sessions\, you will learn how to: \nImprove diagnostic accuracy in complex cardiopulmonary patients \nMake confident anesthetic and treatment decisions in high-risk cases \nIntegrate multidisciplinary insights to optimise outcomes \nBy the end\, you’ll walk away with a sharper clinical edge\, renewed confidence\, and tools to transform the way you approach cardiopulmonary compromise in your patients

SUMMARY:ELANCO | Comprehensive Chronic Pain Management in Cats
DESCRIPTION:Subject: Comprehensive Chronic Pain Management in Cats\nSpeakers: Dr Sam Taylor\nOrganizer: Elanco Animal Health\nLINK: REGISTER HERE \nSpeaker: \nDr Sam Taylor\, RCVS Recognised Specialist in Feline Medicine\, European Specialist in Veterinary Internal Medicine\, Fellow of the RCVS\, Veterinary Specialist Lead for ISFM/iCatCare \nOverview: \nThis lecture provides a practical overview of chronic pain management in cats\, focusing on the high incidence of persistent pain in older patients\, such as osteoarthritis and dental disease. Dr Sam Taylor will guide veterinarians through the latest recommendations from the 2024 ISFM and AAFP guidelines\, addressing the multifaceted nature of chronic pain and the importance of a multimodal approach. \nDiscussion will encompass a range of therapeutic options\, including pharmacologic choices (NSAIDs\, adjunct analgesics\, nutraceuticals)\, non-drug modalities (weight management\, physiotherapy\, environmental modification)\, and the role of tailored pain assessment protocols. While NSAIDs like robenacoxib remain a cornerstone\, the session will objectively review all available molecules and their suitability for cats with comorbidities\, alongside alternative and complementary strategies. \nThroughout\, Dr Taylor will provide practical tips to reassure veterinarians about managing complex cases and comorbidities\, such as chronic kidney disease\, and reinforce best practice in improving feline quality of life. \nKey Takeaways: \nIdentify and assess chronic pain in cats using standardised approaches\nExplore multimodal management strategies: pharmacologic\, non-drug\, and lifestyle interventions\nUnderstand guideline recommendations for NSAIDs and other analgesic options—including use in cats with comorbidities\nCompare NSAID molecules\, mechanisms\, and safety profiles\nBoost confidence in providing holistic pain relief tailored to each patient
