SUMMARY:PURINA | First-Line Approach to GI Disease in Dogs and Cats [WATCH RECORDING]
DESCRIPTION:Subject: First-Line Approach to GI Disease in Dogs and Cats\nSpeakers: Dr Jan S. Suchodolski and Panelists\nOrganizer: Purina\nEvent Link: WATCH RECORDING \nLearn how a paradigm shift in our understanding of gastrointestinal (GI) disease shapes case management.\nVeterinary medicine is undergoing a paradigm shift in its understanding of GI disease in dogs and cats\, and a multimodal approach is vital to success. How does this shift affect clinical decision-making in acute and chronic GI disorders? \nThe Microbiome Forum Round Table 2025 brings together a panel of gastroenterologists and nutritionists to discuss the ongoing evolution of GI case management\, including the foundational role of nutrition and addressing dysbiosis. \nWhat you will learn\nHow challenges with existing classifications of chronic enteropathy are reshaping our approach to case management.\nWhy dysbiosis and chronic enteropathy are an interrelated clinical syndrome.\nWhy antibiotics should be the last option for managing GI disorders.\nThe concept of using diet and nutrition to help maintain gut health and as a critical first-line approach to acute and chronic GI disorders.\nA rational approach to diet selection for the management of canine and feline GI diseases\, as well as logical next steps if dietary management is unsuccessful or does not fully resolve clinical signs.

SUMMARY:Nasal and Brain Tumors: Diagnosis and Treatment
DESCRIPTION:Subject: Nasal and Brain Tumors: Diagnosis and Treatment\nSpeakers: Dr Ryan Friedlein\nOrganizer: Valley Farm Animal Hospital\nEvent Link: REGISTER HERE \nWe are starting off our CPD lectures this year with one from Dr Ryan Friedlein BSc BVSc(Hons) MMedVet(medicine) \nRyan received his BVSc veterinary degree from the University of Pretoria\, Onderstepoort in 2009 and then spent the next 2 years in small animal private practice before enrolling in the small animal medicine residency through Onderstepoort. He obtained his honours degree in 2013 and MMedVet (medicine) in 2017. He has worked as a medicine physician in small animal specialist referral hospitals in both Johannesburg and Pretoria. His veterinary passions are oncology\, diagnostic imaging\, and solving the puzzle of the medicine case. \nNasal and brain tumours: Diagnosis and treatment \nRyan aims to give a comprehensive overview of the important aspects relating to diagnosis and treatment of nasal and brain neoplasia. \nNasal and brain tumours in dogs and cats can cause a range of clinical signs that impact their quality of life. Therefore\, the primary goals of treatment are to alleviate clinical signs\, manage pain\, and extend survival. Nasal tumours often present with nasal discharge\, obstruction to airflow\, epistaxis\, or facial asymmetry\, while brain tumours may lead to neurological signs such as seizures\, behavioural changes and ataxia. \nEarly diagnosis is crucial\, and advanced imaging techniques like MRI and CT are necessary for assessing tumour localization\, size\, and involvement of the surrounding tissues. These diagnostic tools guide treatment planning\, the main pillars including radiation therapy\, surgery and chemotherapy. \nSupper will be served from 7pm\, lecture starts at 7.30pm Please RSVP with your name\, SAVC number and let us know if you have any special dietary requirements. \nWe look forward to seeing you there. \nreferral@valleyfarmvet.co.za
