WHAT WILL BE DISCUSSED
This talk focuses on evaluating equine cardiac health during pre-purchase examinations, covering the interpretation of abnormalities identified on cardiac auscultation. Emphasis is placed on distinguishing benign findings from clinically significant conditions, determining when further diagnostics are warranted, and assessing the impact of cardiac diseases on athletic performance. Guidance on communicating risk to buyers will also be provided, offering a structured approach to cardiac assessment in the pre-purchase setting.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr Eberhardt is an American and European recognized specialist in equine internal medicine and cardiology. In South Africa she founded EquiCardio, a mobile equine cardiology consulting service. She is also a senior lecturer in equine internal medicine at Onderstepoort where she conducts research in equine and wildlife cardiology.
