He obtained his honours degree in 2013 and MMedVet (medicine) in 2017. He has worked as a medicine physician in small animal specialist referral hospitals in both Johannesburg and Pretoria. His veterinary passions are oncology, diagnostic imaging, and solving the puzzle of the medicine case.
Nasal and brain tumours: Diagnosis and treatment
Ryan aims to give a comprehensive overview of the important aspects relating to diagnosis and treatment of nasal and brain neoplasia.
Nasal and brain tumours in dogs and cats can cause a range of clinical signs that impact their quality of life. Therefore, the primary goals of treatment are to alleviate clinical signs, manage pain, and extend survival. Nasal tumours often present with nasal discharge, obstruction to airflow, epistaxis, or facial asymmetry, while brain tumours may lead to neurological signs such as seizures, behavioural changes and ataxia.
Early diagnosis is crucial, and advanced imaging techniques like MRI and CT are necessary for assessing tumour localization, size, and involvement of the surrounding tissues. These diagnostic tools guide treatment planning, the main pillars including radiation therapy, surgery and chemotherapy.
Supper will be served from 7pm, lecture starts at 7.30pm Please RSVP with your name, SAVC number and let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.
We look forward to seeing you there.
