Webinar description: Therapeutic apheresis — encompassing therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP), cytapheresis, cytokine adsorption, and immunoadsorption — has emerged as a viable extracorporeal treatment modality in small animal medicine. This lecture provides a comprehensive, evidence-based review of the current veterinary literature, translational extrapolation from human medicine guidelines (ASFA 9th Edition, 2023; EXTRIP workgroup), indications by disease category, patient selection criteria, technical considerations, and the horizon of emerging applications.
Presenter: Dr. Cedric Dufayet earned his veterinary degree from the Alfort School of Veterinary Medicine (France) and completed advanced training in small animal medicine, nephrology, and urology. He has over a decade of experience in specialty practice and a focused interest in renal medicine and extracorporeal therapies. Dr. Dufayet completed formal training in human hemodialysis and is a graduate of the UC Davis Hemodialysis Academy. He currently works with the Advanced Urinary Disease Service at the UC Veterinary Medical Center–San Diego. His clinical and research interests include chronic kidney disease, urinary stone management, hemodialysis, and therapeutic apheresis.
