Dr Oriol Franquesa
Dr Oriol Franquesa is a consultant vet with more than 20 years of experience in milk quality (Qllet), Spain. Qualified with a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in 1999 and Master degree on “Advisement and Management of Dairy Cattle Farms” from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in 2004. Qllet offers consultancy for all topics related to milk quality for dairy farms (cows, goats and sheeps) and milk industry, like designing milking routines, milk sampling, milk quality improvement strategies, milkers training, facilities design for Cow Comfort and Animal Welfare, milking machine testing, food safety and training for veterinarians on milk quality. During these 20 years of practice, Qllet has been giving services in most of the European countries and also countries like Xina, Brasil, Japan, Canada, Ukraine, Russia and South Africa.
Since 2022, Oriol Franquesa is also been an Associated Professor for the animal production department in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
Dr Santiago Casademunt Garre
Santiago Casademunt Garre graduated in veterinary medicine from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain, in 1994. He did field veterinary work as a cattle veterinarian in Spain and the United Kingdom. He did master studies in marketing direction and communication, and postgraduate studies in project management. Santiago joined HIPRA in 2001 as technical service for ruminants with international scope and has provided consultancy services to farms in numerous countries and all continents. His main interest has turned around the management, diagnostics, and control of infectious diseases of ruminants, including the development and implementation of new diagnostic tools in the respiratory, reproductive, and mastitis therapeutic areas. In 2008 he took responsibility as brand manager of the respiratory and reproductive vaccines of HIPRA, leading the introduction of several new vaccines into the market. Since 2024 Santiago is the global technical lead for ruminant vaccines at HIPRA for EMEA & CIS.
Dr Marga Penelas
Dr Penelas graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2002. She first started out as a clinical veterinarian in the field in the north of her native Galicia. After this stage, she joined Seragro Cooperativa Galega, the largest veterinary group in the country, as a partner, working as a milk quality specialist for 14 years, advising dairy farms in Galicia and Castilla León on the prevention and treatment of mastitis. In recent years, her main objective has been the development of on-farm strategies to improve the immunity of the mammary gland in the transition period, control mastitis in farms with automatic milking systems, as well as implement mastitis control mechanisms avoiding the use of antibiotics. Together with her colleagues, she has published in the main print media in the sector (Vaca Pinta, Albéitar, Frisona Española…) and collaborated in presentations and talks worldwide. Marga Penelas is currently a Global Product Manager specialized in mastitis vaccines at the Spanish laboratory HIPRA.
