WILDLIFE PHARMACEUTICALS | Oral pain in captive wild animals : “They are still eating so this does not hurt!” Debunking the myth
Wednesday 29 April @ 19:00 - 20:30
Subject: Oral pain in captive wild animals : “They are still eating so this does not hurt!” Debunking the myth
Speakers: Dr Gerhard Putter

Description:
This webinar will challenge the common assumption that captive wild animals do not experience oral or dental pain. It will explore whether this perception stems from the animals’ limited expression of pain, or more likely, from gaps in our ability to recognise the subtle and often non-specific clinical signs they display.
Understanding this issue is critical, as it directly influences clinical decision-making. The session will emphasise the responsibility of veterinarians and animal carers to refine their diagnostic approaches, treatment strategies, and management practices accordingly.
