In house laboratory assessment of ear cytology is an essential skill to successfully treat ear disease and ensure the best antibiotic stewardship. Accurate initial assessment and subsequent monitoring of otitis is key.
We will discuss cytology findings and how looking beyond the microorganism directs therapy.

Clinical Associate Professor in Veterinary Dermatology
University of Nottingham

Steve is an experienced dermatology specialist, with clinical, research and teaching expertise with a particular interest in atopic dermatitis and otitis. In 2000, he completed his PhD on the genetics and immune responses in atopic dermatitis and has since been part of the ‘itchy dog’ project at the University of Nottingham where he has worked, first as an associate and now a member of staff since 2013. Steve is the national dermatologist for Guide Dogs with whom he has worked for over 30 years. Communicating the complexity of dermatology to specialist, primary care and student audiences is his great love.
